  2. Do your response right after reading, it helps with your understanding of the text.
  3. Write the date next to your chosen response.
  4. ONE SENTENCE IS NOT ENOUGH. YOU NEED BETWEEN 3 AND 5 FULL SENTENCES THAT MAKE SENSE.
  5. Include the TITLE, author’s name and the start and finish time of your reading.

Make a connection – (Monday)

Connect your reading to something else you have read, or
            Connect to your own experience.

Based on what you have just read, make predictions about what you think will occur next in the story.

Write a character profile - (Wednesday)

Describe an important character in the story by:

1. Naming the character.  2) Describe what he/she looks like.  3) If you know their age, include that.   4) What is it that they do, how do they behave, what are their favorite things?   5) Describe a situation in the story and how they reacted/ acted to the situation.

Write a response in the form of a letter - (Thursday)

Write a short letter (in correct letter format) about your reading to your teacher
with your questions or general observations about what you have been reading – is this one of your favorite books, are the characters believable, what do you like about  this book?

Illustrate part of your reading   (Friday)

Draw an illustration for a key moment in the story, or an important idea that you read about in a non fiction book.  You must write a caption explaining your illustration (remember, you do not have to be an artist!).
